Why Family Play Matters More Than Perfection

The six-week holidays are over, and many of us are back into routine – whether that means school runs, new classrooms, or simply the return of structure after weeks of summer chaos.

Like many families, we tried to make the most of the break. We camped, we adventured, and we finally managed a trip to the seaside. Sitting on the sand, I noticed something that made me smile: families playing together. Cricket bats, footballs, frisbees, swimmers everywhere.

What struck me wasn’t how skilled the children were (although some were pretty impressive!) – it was how much fun they were having. Kids experimenting, trying, failing, laughing, learning. Parents joining in, or stepping back to watch with pride.

And that’s exactly what we try to recreate in Roarsome Sport sessions.

Because when children:

  • Move their bodies
  • Play alongside their parents
  • Celebrate their independence
  • Tackle challenges with support

…they build not just agility, balance, and coordination – but also confidence, resilience, and joy.

So as we step into this new school year, I want to encourage you: keep playing. Whether it’s kicking a ball in the garden, dancing in the living room, or joining a class, those little moments of movement and connection are powerful.

And if you’re looking for a place to grow those skills together, our Sunday sessions in Uttoxeter are still open for new families.
