How Accountability Can Help You and Your Kids Get Active

What keeps you accountable to your goals?

For over 10 years, I told myself I’d do a Park Run. It sounded fun, it’s free, and it’s a great way to stay active. But life always got in the way—kids, the weather, lack of time, or sometimes just a lazy morning after a busy week.

But last weekend, something changed. I finally did my first Park Run at Bramshall Road in Uttoxeter (highly recommend it, by the way!). So, what made the difference?

Accountability.

My sister, who’s just started running on the treadmill at the gym, asked me to join her. She hadn’t done much running before, but she was determined to give Park Run a go. We committed to doing it together—and because of that, we followed through.

It reminded me how powerful accountability is.

Why Accountability Works

There’s research to back this up. Studies show that you’re 42% more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down. And if you share those goals with someone else, your chances of success skyrocket.

So, whether it’s running a Park Run, squeezing in a workout, or simply taking your kids to the park, having a plan and some accountability can make all the difference.

Let’s Get Kids Active

My mission at Roarsome Sport is to help kids and families build activity into their routines. Sports and active play don’t just improve physical health—they boost confidence, coordination, and family bonding too.

So, here’s my challenge to you:

Say out loud, or write down one thing you’re going to do this week to get active with your child.

Need ideas? Try these:

  • 🏞️ Take a trip to the park after school
  • 💃 Have a family dance party (PJs welcome!)
  • 🚴 Go on a family bike ride
  • 🏡 Swap your next TV episode for a quick home workout

Once you’ve decided, share your plan!

Join Our Roarsome Community

Every week, I’ll post on Roarsome Sport’s social media asking what you’re planning to do to stay active. Let’s use our amazing community to inspire each other, share ideas, and stay accountable.

(Remember, I’m holding myself accountable too—I’ve told you about these posts, so I have to do them now. 😉)

Together, let’s make fitness fun and create an active, healthy future for our kids.
