As parents, we know how different children can be—even siblings raised in the same home! I see it every day with my own two girls. They are two and a half years apart, now four and almost two, and while they share similarities, they are also completely unique.
One of the biggest differences I notice is how they approach the same tasks. My eldest (when she’s in the mood!) wants to get dressed herself. She sometimes needs a little help, but she thrives on the sense of achievement. My youngest, on the other hand, isn’t ready to dress herself yet, but she loves choosing her own t-shirt or socks—because for her, feeling in control is important.
Same task, different children, different goals. And that’s exactly how I coach at Roarsome Sport.
One Game, Many Goals
In every session, we all take part in the same games, activities, and skills—but what each child gets out of it is different.
✔ For some children, it’s about improving motor skills – They need encouragement to develop agility, balance, and coordination, and I challenge them to push themselves each week.
✔ For others, it’s about confidence – Group settings can be overwhelming, so we start with small steps, a warm welcome, and a safe space to build trust. Over time, these children feel comfortable stepping up and even leading parts of the games.
✔ For some, it’s about resilience – It’s okay to try and fail. It’s okay to lose a game. Through our sessions, children learn to handle frustration and disappointment in a supportive environment, to try again, and to celebrate others’ success too.
Tailored Coaching for Every Child
I work closely with parents to understand what their child needs from the sessions, and I tailor my coaching to support that. While we all play the same games, it’s the individual approach that helps children grow—not just in sport but in confidence, character, and connection with others.
